2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, E.J. Church

This reserve wine takes its name from E.J. Church, Long Meadow Ranch’s pioneering settler who acquired the property via a patent grant from President Ulysses S. Grant in 1872. We have replanted the southwest-facing vineyards which E.J. Church established in the 1870s. These mountain-grown grapes, planted at 1300 feet elevation develop deep fruit flavors and ripe tannins which are handcrafted into an elegant, balanced wine.

Winemaker Notes

The E.J. Church is the barrel select representation of best blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon from our Mayacamas Estate ranch. This elegant ageworthy wine has a rich nose of black cherry, plum, cocoa and a hint of dried bay leaf. On the palate, French oak is balanced by the fresh, natural acidity and round tannins definitive of our mountain blocks. – Justin Carr

Vineyard Notes

An early bud break, wet spring soils, and a long growing season produced a vintage with excellent quality. A wet spring started fast and rapid growth was met with average summer temperatures, which slowed development and reduced yields. The result was a moderate crop of well-concentrated fruit that ripened fully and slowly before an early harvest.
