The 2013 vintage was a superb vintage. The unusually long season, moderate temperatures without a major heat spike, and lack of rains made for one of the best vintages in recent memory. An early spring bud break allowed our vineyards to get a two-week head start on the vintage, and the lack of frost meant that yields were excellent while the longer growing season allowed for full ripeness. The wines from this vintage will be outstanding in quality, and the 2013 Merlot is no exception.
This Merlot is incredibly accessible and balanced; it will reward those who enjoy the ephemeral beauty of youthful red wines. The inviting nose has plenty of red fruit, but also notes of toasted almonds, milk chocolate and baked graham cracker crust. The fresh and layered personality of this Merlot opens on the palate to showcase a core of plum, black cherry and raspberry fruit. The balanced acidity lends subtle support to the structure and weight which in turn lend persistence to the medley of flavors. This Merlot is packed with pleasant surprises, enjoy while young. — Ashley Heisey
