The 2005 E.J. Church Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the inaugural release of a handcrafted blend from our historic vineyard sites. The vineyards were first planted in the 1870s by the founding pioneer of Long Meadow Ranch, E.J. Church.

2005 E.J. Church Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Our reserve wine takes its name from E.J. Church, Long Meadow Ranch’s pioneering settler who acquired the property via a patent grant from President Ulysses S. Grant in 1872.

We have replanted the southwest-facing vineyards which E.J. Church established in the 1870’s. These mountain grown grapes, planted at 1300 feet elevation, develop deep fruit flavors and ripe tannins which are handcrafted into an elegant, balanced wine.  Quite approachable now, this wine will continue to improve with 5 years or more of age.

Tasting Notes
The inaugural release of the E.J. Church Cabernet Sauvignon expresses the full range of LMR’s terroir. The wine possesses an impressive balance of concentrated varietal fruit, intriguing earthiness and rich tannins. The nose reveals core aromas of black cherry, black tea and cedar, then unveils layer after layer of nuance (molten dark chocolate, mineral, black current, roasting coffee beans, warm butter cookies). The lush expansive entry delivers all of these flavors to the palate. Refined tannins lend a seamless quality to the wine all the way to its structured mouth watering finish. - Ashley Heisey
